Understanding Business Exit Value

Calculating your company's exit value is a critical step for founders planning a liquidation event, raising Series A/B funding, or negotiating an acquisition. Our Exit Value Calculator provides a data-driven approach to understanding what your business is worth in the eyes of an investor or strategic buyer.

The Difference Between Enterprise Value and Equity Value

Many entrepreneurs confuse these two terms. Enterprise Value (EV) represents the total value of the business operations, regardless of how it's funded. It's often calculated as a multiple of EBITDA or Revenue.

Equity Value, however, is what actually lands in the shareholders' pockets. To find it, we subtract the company's total debt (loans, liabilities) and add back the cash on hand. This is known as the "Cash-free, Debt-free" valuation adjustment.

The Golden Formula:

Equity Value = (EBITDA × Multiple) - Debt + Cash

Which Multiple Should You Use?

Depending on your stage and business model, you might use different valuation metrics:

  • EBITDA Multiple: Best for profitable, mature businesses (Manufacturing, Retail, Services). It measures the cash flow generation capability.
  • Revenue Multiple: Standard for high-growth tech and SaaS startups that may not be profitable yet but are capturing significant market share.

Sector Specific Multiples in 2026

Valuation multiples fluctuate based on interest rates and market sentiment. In the current 2026 climate:

  • SaaS: Remains strong with 6-10x Revenue multiples for companies with low churn.
  • E-commerce: Typically trades at 2-4x Revenue or 6-10x EBITDA.
  • Professional Services: Usually commands 4-6x EBITDA due to the reliance on human capital rather than software.
